Cybernetics and the Future of Humanity

Cybernetics is a broad spectrum which looks into many things but I want to specifically highlight the science of living things. This is because of the way we are currently developing and adapting to all the technology around us. By looking at how the technology links with humans we can see how to better the digital systems to the biological systems. There are many human factors which can affect how we can change the future of humanity, such as Connections, Communities and also Customisation. These factors are something that can become a subject of the next stage of technical development.  As well as looking at the human factors of cybernetics I also wanted to look into biotechnologies and see how we can digitally modify them. Smith simply puts together the definition of what biotechnology is. "The word biotechnology was used to cover the interaction of biology with technology, connoting all productions by means of biological transformations." (Smith J...

Concept 2: HANDY

The Bionic Hand Programming & Personalisation app CONCEPT:  The idea behind this app is to help people in their day to day lives be able to interact with new technologies. Prosthetics can be a personal thing, which can change lives for the better. But as well as changing lives, it will also change lifestyles. I want to look at how users of a bionic hand feel when they interact with it. This is why I came up with HANDY, this app can personalise the bionic hand to suit the users specific needs WHO?: This concept is aimed at people who are already using prosthetics and bionic limbs. The aim is to make the user feel included with the changing technologies all around the. Currently I am just basing this app for the user of Bionic hands but I plan to expand this idea to be open to all users of prosthetics and bionic enhancements.  INTERFACE DESIGNS:  These are some possible app designs I tried out from a hand drawn sketch to a digital mock up. These ar...

Concept 1: Mirror Mirror

A Facial Scanning Mood Identification Mirror:  CONCEPT:  The idea is to create a mirror which can read peoples emotions with a built in facial recognition scanner. The mirror will scan your face and then set mood lighting according to your mood. The aim is to either improve or maintain the clients mood during and after use. WHY?: I was looking at the future of human design and wearable technologies that may become possible while living in Industry 4.0 and decided to look into the possible medical opportunities that may come from this era. The mirror would have to be amplified with Artificial Intelligence to be able to look at a human and read their cognitive data and their emotions. Once the mirror has done this it will then have a back lit glow depending on the mood it reads you as, this will then engulf the room it is based in and hopefully soothe the user. The target audience for this project is for teenagers and young children who struggle with mental health...

Industry 4.0

The 'Industrial Revolution' is a term we have all heard before, but what about 'Industry 4.0'? The evolution of technologies has been a steady process since the 18th century and there are 4 main stages of the industrial revolution, and we are now in the 4th, this is where the term 'Industry 4.0' comes from. "The evolution of technology from the most recent industrial age to the technology era" (T,A, 2018). Telukdarie points out that in the height of new technologies we are still finding it hard to fully determine what it actually means to be part of the next stage of the industrial revolution therefore stating it is an evolution, a process that is still happening.  Gilchrist shares a similar theory towards 'Industry 4.0' as Telukarie. He suggests that the idea of it isn't actually that new, "Industry 4.0, like so many new technologies in the Century, is not a new concept; it is more a rebirth of an older concept...
